There are several types of Concours d’Elegance, or cleaning up your car and seeing how it measures up to others in your class. Some simply have the owner arrive and clean, say, a door, while others go whole hog and judge with the proverbial white gloves and Q-tips. Either way, Concours always offer the opportunity to see some great Porsches of all vintages and styles. One of the things we run each year is a Charity Concours. This year’s beneficiary will be Duke Children’s Hospital through the MIX 101.5 WRAL-FM Radiothon. The venue will be Brier Creek Commons in Raleigh, the site of our weekly KoffeeKlatches. Directions and a map may be found on the Calendar page. Registrants should plan on arriving between 8:00 and 10:00 AM to get their car(s) positioned. In order to increase the amount of money raised for Duke Children’s Hospital, we will open the gates to the public from 10:00 AM till 1:30 PM, for a voluntary contribution. The cars will be roped off to protect them from the overly curious and sticky fingered. As in the past, the entrants are the judges and will vote for their favorite car in each division as well as Best in Show. This is a People’s-Choice-type Concours, so just wash the car up and bring it out. Awards, door prizes, and raffle winners will be announced shortly around 2:00. We have also invited the Triangle Italians and the other regulars at the first-Saturday-of-the-month KoffeeKlatches to participate, so please plan to attend and support this worthwhile cause. Registration is $15 per car for advance registration received by April 25, 2009, and $20/car for registration received after that. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to help with planning the number of trophies and space needed, though you can come last minute and bring your check and registration form to the "gate." Please make your check payable to "Hurricane Region, PCA" and mail it along with the registration form to Jerry Magolan. (Late-comers should bring both check and registration form with them.) You'll find Jerry's address and contact information at the bottom of the registration form in either PDF or Word below. And later in the year, stay tuned for our annual Oktoberfest, another great event for the family (see Calendar). |
