Of course, all our events are sociable, but some involve
gatherings that do not depend upon bringing out your Porsche. Of course,
she is always welcome and will probably enjoy the outing. We have some
events, such as Oktoberfest, that are a combination of different activities.
In addition, there are Saturday-morning KoffeeKlatches, monthly meetings
in Raleigh and Wilmington, lighthouse and winery tours, annual parties,
and assorted gatherings betwixt and between. Keep checking the Club
Calendar, as we will update it as new information becomes available.
Meanwhile, take a look at the generic descriptions of the types of
events we hold below as well as our Photos page
for some of our past social events. We encourage all of you shutter-happy
folks to share some of your best with the rest of us. After all,
this is your website!
This is the annual bash. People get dressed up, if they feel like
it, and gather to talk over the year, share car stories, and generall
hae a good time with one another.
This is a very popular weekly event, every Saturday
morning, (rain, shine, snow, etc.). There can be a crowd of 20 to
50 or more and always new faces along with the regulars. There has
been many a friendship started here, business deals made, parts swapped & sold, cars sold, you name
it. It’s also a good opportunity to tell stories about how fast your car
is and what an excellent driver you are!!! There are men, women, children, couples,
pets… Just a good gathering of some good folks. You’ll see all
manner of Porsches from 356’s to every kind of 911, several 928’s,
and some 944’s & 968’s. The location is Camille’s Sidewalk
Café in the Brier Creek Shopping Center…intersection of I-540 & NC-70
right between Raleigh and Durham. The time is 8:AM (or so*) ‘til
10:AM (or so*) every Saturday morning. (*Some people get there as
early as 7:30 and some are still there at 11:00.)
This is an annual Wilmington, NC area event held in
April that celebrates the beautiful spring awakening of the Azaleas. Visit our Azalea Festival/Parade page for more information.
The annual Hurricane Region OktoberFest has become one of the region's
most popular events. This event provides attendees with the chance
to see some of the most beautiful cars in the area in a picturesque
lakeside setting. Snacks and refreshments are provided throughout
the afternoon, giving everyone a chance to cast a vote for their
favorite car in many Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and exotic categories.
The afternoon is capped off with an excellent BBQ dinner, trophy
presentations, and lots of door prizes.
Join us for a taste of American history and fine wine on the Coastal
Area fall tour to two historic battlefields and a regional winery,
with some great country road driving in between. We’ll meet
early for breakfast in Wilmington, then start our tour.
The Annual Hurricane Region Lighthouse Cruise explores the Outer
Banks and coastal sounds of eastern North Carolina, visiting its
many Lighthouses and other nautical, historical and cultural attractions
such as the Whalehead Club at Currituck, the Life Saving Station
at Chicamacomico, and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum at Harkers
Island. Registration for the Lighthouse Cruise opens in July and
closes in September. We are limited to at total of 50 people and
reservations go quickly. For more information e-mail Lou
and Jerry Walker or call them at (252) 249-0912 before 9 p.m.
A group of coastal Porschefiles gathered for a fun day driving a somewhat circuitous
route from Wilmington to the Wallace. Alas, we do not have photos from this event!
Contrary to popular opinion, Spot is
not a dog. He is a rather special member of our crazy car group.
Every year, Tom Roos, our resident BBQ guru, leads a like-minded,
appreciative group to a reasonably local and fabulously delicious
BBQ place to celebrate Spot's birthday. All the details are a surprise
until the last minute when a rendezvous spot is announced. Tom has
also been known to lead the unabashedly hungry on other BBQ runs
on other Saturdays throughout the year.
Tom Roos — and possibly "Spot" — have put together
another fun run for us. They felt it's time to get together
and enjoy our fine machines on some country twisties. But for those
whose precious Porsches are not street-legal, you are welcome, too!
After all, it's not just about the cars...
We assemble at KoffeeKlatch at Brier Creek
and depart for a fun ride with a great destination.
Bring a co-pilot, the kids or the entire family if you have room. Hope you can join us. Plan
on meeting at 9 a.m. for a 9:30 departure. Contact Tom
Roos if you plan to attend.
Each year in May, we have our annual wine tour in which we visit a number of
wineries in the piedmont and mountains of North Carolina. North Carolina has
a long, albeit interrupted, history of wine-making. Our state was once the largest
wine producer in the country. Alas, that haitus was caused by the ill-advised
and quite-unpopular temperance movement and prohibition. Stills survived in backwaters,
but the larger and more visible vineyards did not. All the vines were burned,
and in recent years, wine makers had to start anew from the ground up. Check
the Calendar
page for
links to more details .
This was fabulous weekend of racing and other events. We had a tent right at
Turn 5 with an unbeatable view of the track. Thanks to the tent, everyone stayed
dry during the various events. There was plenty of food and drink for those who
came. Many thanks to Leith
Porsche for sponsoring the tent.
This was a new event for our wine lovers that was held in Apex. We dined on gourmet
food and sampled a variety of wines, one for each of the five courses. Many took
home doggy bags, as the food was so plentiful! The price wasincredible and about
two/thirds of the normal fare for this type of event.
There was rumor of a costume rally to be held in October, but because of conflicts,
we remained in the dark and will wait until next year for one that doesn't vie
with other schedules.
