Fort Fisher Attack 1865
Attack on Fort Fisher, 1865
Remember...

It's not just the cars, it's the people.
Join us for a taste of American history and fine wine on the Coastal Area fall tour to two historic battlefields and a regional winery, with some great country road driving in between.

We’ll meet for breakfast in Wilmington, at the Monkey Junction Golden Corral, then drive to the Ft. Fisher State Historic Site. Ft. Fisher was the most significant earthen works fort in the Civil War and defended the Confederacy’s major supply line to the sea until a massive amphibious Federal assault captured it to seal the fate of the Confederacy.

From there, we’ll take a leisurely ferry ride to Southport, then drive past Shallotte to the Silver Coast Winery, the premier winery in Coastal North Carolina. There will be a tour of the winery, including a wine tasting, followed by lunch in its annual Octoberfest festival.

From there, we’ll drive through Green Swamp and on up to Moore’s Creek National Battlefield, near Currie. The Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge was the first Patriot victory of the Revolutionary War, and it effectively prevented the British from quickly quelling the rebellion in the southern colonies by keeping the British fleet from meeting up with the Loyalist Army. After a stroll around the battlefield, we’ll depart from there for home.
