5th Annual Hurricane Region Wine Tour
Saturday-Sunday, May 30-31

For those who did not join us last year, a little history…

A small group of Porsche Club members and spouses noticed that every time the club members got together the main topics of conversation were who had the fastest, prettiest, newest, etc. Porsche, or the most fun roads to drive, and/or what was the latest car or part to be replaced.

Well, as the often-neglected spouses of these members, we also noticed that the subject of wine came up often, too. We have done a few tastings of our own at various get-togethers/parties, and even we novices had a great time. What else would you expect when you combine Porsches (or Porsche tow vehicles), good friends, and wine?

Anyway, we started talking about doing something fun for everyone, members and spouses combined. We had a great time doing the car rallies in New Bern and Wilmington and thought this would be an interesting idea. Thus, the Wine Tour was born.

Saturday:

The timing of our event has coincidentally aligned with the largest wine festival in North Carolina.  After meeting at a central location (announcements on this will be sent out closer to the event), our first stop of this tour will be the NC Wine Festival at Tanglewood Park near Winston Salem.  There will be at least 30 North Carolina wineries represented at the festival and as luck would have it, the wineries on the remainder of the tour will not be in attendance.  This means you will have the opportunity to taste the wines of more than 37 of our local producers in a single weekend.

Admission and tastings at the festival are included in the registration fee.  We strongly recommend that drivers not attempt to taste all the wines at the festival!  There will also be quite a few local restaurants with samplings of some of their dishes available for purchase. You may also want to consider taking a picnic lunch, as the grounds at Tanglewood are very nice.

Dinner on Saturday and Lunch on Sunday are included in this year’s tour price.

From the festival we will be visiting Ragapple Lassie Vineyards, Grassy Creek, and then a tasting and dinner at Old North State Winery and Micro Brewery in Mt. Airy.

Hotel information:

Saturday night we will be staying at:

Hampton Inn
2029 Rockford Street
Mt Airy, NC

Please be sure to call them at 336 789-5999 to transfer/book the room under your name and credit card.  We have reserved a block of rooms under the name of Porsche Car Club/Beth Knox.

Sunday:

Sunday will begin with a scenic drive from Mt. Airy to the Swan Creek area for stops at Raffaldini and Laurel Gray. Remember, Sunday lunch is included in the tour price.

Registration:

The registration form is available online in PDF or Word.  Register early as only 25 cars are planned for this tour because of the size of some of the wineries, and please print legibly, as your e-mail address is needed to arrange for meal choices later!
