4rd Annual Hurricane Region Wine Tour
Saturday-Sunday, May 3-4

For those who did not join us last year, a little history…

A small group of Porsche Club members and spouses noticed that every time the club members got together the main topics of conversation were who had the fastest, prettiest, newest, etc. Porsche, or the most fun roads to drive, and/or what was the latest car or part to be replaced.

Well, as the often-neglected spouses of these members, we also noticed that the subject of wine came up often, too. We have done a few tastings of our own at various get-togethers/parties, and even we novices had a great time. What else would you expect when you combine Porsches (or Porsche tow vehicles), good friends, and wine?

Anyway, we started talking about doing something fun for everyone, members and spouses combined. We had a great time doing the car rallies in New Bern and Wilmington and thought this would be an interesting idea. Thus, the Wine Tour was born.

Here is the basic plan for this year’s Wine Tour:

Colorful Targa We will meet at a predetermined place, in the Raleigh area and drive through scenic countryside’s to visit four different wineries on Saturday and two more on Sunday.

WineBottles The wineries that have been chosen for this year: Benjamin Vineyards, Rock of Ages Winery, Childress Vineyards, RayLen Vineyards, Uwharrie Vineyards and Stony Mountain Vineyards. These are subject to change for a variety of reasons, including new wines, road conditions, etc., but we will keep you informed at all times. Look for the little yellow New! or coral New!!

Picnic Hamper This year we are catering all of Saturday’s meals — cold cut sandwiches at Rock of Ages and we will be able to join RayLen for their annual Spring Fling. This will include music by “Covered Dish” as well as a dinner provided by Bennett Smokehouse and of course our tastings. The public will also be invited to attend their Spring Fling, but we have made special arrangements for our dinner and tastings.

Breakfast and Lunch on Sunday will be on your own. We will, or course, give everyone ideas for both in his/her confirmation packet.

Saturday night we will be staying at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Mocksville. You will need to call (336) 751-5966 to transfer/book the room yourself. We have reserved a block of rooms at a group rate of $59.99 under the Porsche Car Club/Doug Behning’s name.

Party Favors On Sunday we will have a wrap up of the weekend We will start out at Uwharrie Vineyards and then travel on to Stoney Mountain Vineyards on the side of (natch) Stoney Mountain and overlooks the Uwharrie Mountains and Lower Yadkin Valley. The scenery from Stoney Mountains is beautiful, and they have a wonderful deck to enjoy our tasting. You are welcome to spend as much time enjoying the view as you wish. Please feel free to bring snacks with you!

One word of caution, the “road” up to Stoney Mountain is paved; unfortunately, it has many pot holes, so we will take this drive slowly and carefully! We will also have our drawing for the prize from our weekend icebreaker game. (You must be present to win!) We do encourage everyone to check out web sites, call with questions, etc. You will receive a folder with all the necessary information, directions, snacks and a really cool gift at our meeting place on May 3rd. We will also be emailing confirmations and letting you know specifics on lunch and dinner.

WineBottlesYou can be a part of this fun filled weekend. All you need to do is to send in your registration form in PDF or Word along with your check for $50.00 per person. We will send out full details in your confirmation packet. N.B. Due to the size of some of the Wineries, we will need to limit this to the first 25 cars.

Meanwhile, please feel free to e-mail Doug and/or Debbie or call them at 919-606-3035 before 9 p.m. with any questions.
